Portfolio Update: New Project Online

Having kept this on the back burner for a while i've now updated my Portfolio site to include a recent documentary project shot in the UAE this easter. The project explores the lives of the unskilled migrant workforce in Dubai's construction industry. After an extended stay in Dubai I was fascinated with the ever present construction workers and the issues that surround their presence. For more info on the series and to take a look at the images check out my updated Projects section HERE.

Let me know what you think in the comments.

I absolutely love these Toby! Love the tonality, the straight-forward portraits, the compositions, and esp. the color palette. I hope you have more from this series cos I really wanted to see more. Needless to say, you should be very proud of these.

I'm curious, how did you get the shadows to open up in each image? Seems like many of these photos were taken under BDE (bright daylight) condition. Did you use HDR at all? I would LOVE to see a before/after tutorial if you feel like sharing!

One gripe about your site, the thumbnails obstruct the view of an image and they dont go away easily.

Hi Sohil, the photos where taken using a spot meter, exposing for the shadows on my camera. Shooting raw I over exposed in post by up to 2 stops and then recovered highlights back by up to +50 in camera raw to flatten out the tonality. ill be addressing the thumbnails soon to make them disappear a bit faster. and yes the series stretches to about 20 images in total. thanks for your comments.
