Digital Polariods: Session 2

Here are a couple of shots from today's second stab at studio portraiture, I am pleased with the results. The first shot of Harry uses the same lighting as can be seen in the second studio lighting setup from the previous shoot. The shot is a little more accomplished given our new familiarity with the set up and by bringing the corridor of light further from the subject and keeping the Harry's shoulders parallel with the light source a more textured lighting has been achieved, this is especially noticeable in the graduations of tone in his black jacket. A few contrast tweaks and a vignette where added in lightroom 2.

The second shot is of our lovely model and fellow photographer Hannah Tozer. For this shot the aim was to achieve a portrait With a dramatic dual rim lights with nice shadowless skin tones to compliment the relatively direct gaze of Hannah.

The lighting was achieved using a beauty dish directly above the camera angled down onto Hannah's face as a key light. The rim lights where angled towards the camera at 45 degrees to Hannah's shoulders to illuminate her hair and outline. Light spill was controlled using small dishes on the rim lights and Gobos (flags) between the lights and the camera to prevent flaring. The image was then processed in Lightroom 2 to desaturate the skin tones.
